SAILING SEASON 2017 - 18
LEWIS MARINE& NAUTILUS MARINE INSURANCE TWILIGHT RACE 5 A beautiful evening to be on the water with 52 boats and their respective crews enjoying a fading sea-breeze and warm conditions, a stark contrast to last week’s chill !!. A moderating breeze did not stop plenty of mark rounding drama with some skippers needing to “brush up “on RRS 18.2 regarding mark rounding and especially what constitutes an overlap!!!

Close competitive racing in Division 2, “Wildfire” powering out of the start
“Cleopatra” in fine trim on her way Some mark roundings were to win Div 1 problematic to say the least
COMBINED CLUBS MIDWEEK SERIES 1 RACE 6 An excellent fleet of 22 boats battled some fickle winds with the age old story of the gradient Northerly fighting the building sea-breeze. The big blue hull of “Liberte Express” used her momentum and waterline to reach the finish line first. On corrected time “Wings Three” was first followed by “Alumination” and “Southern Cross” respectively.
BYC CLUB ASSETS The club dinghy is back in service thanks to the great work of the Wednesday volunteers. The considerable repairs were due to unnecessary abuse inflicted on the fibreglass dinghy. Also the wooden planks in the slip yard have been disappearing in recent times, from over 20 to now only numbering 8 !!! Please take care of the Club’s assets they are your property and are expensive to replace or repair.
THE “BANANAS” ARE BACK IN BUSINESS The BYC Permanent Marks B1 & B2 have recently been serviced and are in their correct positions.

BYC Sail Training
The first sail training programs for the 2017/18 season commenced on Monday. Many thanks to one of our trainers, Matt Westland, for “showing the ropes” or should that be “showing the sheets” to the enthusiastic participants in their first of four training sessions. Once the 4 week courses are completed it would be great to give the graduates an opportunity to build on their sailing experience through our Wednesday night Twilight races. They come away from the program with an understanding of setting and trimming sails, tacking and gybing, wind direction and strength and its effects, basic “rules of the road” and a keenness to continue their sailing journey. If you are interested in having Start Crewing graduates on board for 3 consecutive Twilights once they have completed the course please give me a call or feel free to have a conversation if you see me at the club. A data base will be set up, possibly through the MySail app. Your support of this initiative would be appreciated.Ed Glover Sail Training Coordinator 0437 887 797
Serious, big volume cruising yacht from respected French designer. Heavily built in fibreglass, with good inventory. Typical of French designs, the interior is open and the layout supremely practical both for living aboard and sailing. All fittings are oversized and robust. A comfortable cockpit, totally protected by a hard dodger, hard top and clears means you could be sailing in your slippers!
Maintained and presented in very tidy condition by her current, professional mariner owner.
